The rachis (central axis) of the pinnately compound leaves is strongly thickened on the underside. The large sessile cones have spirally arranged sporophylls. The female cones of Lepidozamia peroffskyana are among the largest of all cycad cones, reaching up to 90 cm (35 inches) in length and weighing up to 45 kg (almost 100 pounds). Hope’s cycad (L. hopei) is the tallest extant cycad, capable of reaching more than 17 metres (56 feet) in height.
