Lismore, island in the entrance of the sea inlet of Loch Linnhe, Argyll and Bute council area, historic county of Argyllshire, Scotland. It is about 9.5 miles (15 km) long and less than 2 miles (3 km) wide. A Columban (early Celtic Christian) monastery was founded on the island about 592. In the 13th century it became the seat of the bishop of Argyll. A small cathedral has been restored and is used as the parish church of the small island community.
